Prix Moulines goes to Raymond Guenin

The prestigious Prix Moulines for an outstanding entomological publication goes to the book "Bildatlas der Rot- und Grünwidderchen des Alpenraums (Zygaenidae: Zygaeninae, Procridininae, Chalcosiinae)" (2023, Contributions to Natural History, 39: 1-1007)

After intensive preparatory work and thanks to the support of numerous experts, the “Bildatlas der Rot- und Grünwidderchen des Alpenraums (Zygaenidae: Zygaeninae, Procridininae, Chalcosiinae)" was published at the end of July as the 39th volume in the series 'Contributions to Natural History' of the Natural History Museum of Bern. Studies have been carried out for many years to record the diversity of species in a wide range of habitats. At the same time, the importance of museum collections has been rediscovered as an indispensable basis for historical comparisons. To draw reliable conclusions about changes in the fauna, it is necessary to be able to identify species correctly. The aim was therefore to bring together in a single volume the characters important for identification, their variability and other information for all the species recorded in Switzerland and throughout the Alpine arc. In addition, overviews are given of older, nowadays little-known studies. The study of genital morphology is a strong point of the illustrated atlas because it can be carried out with simple means and, above all, because many Zygaenidae species can only be identified in this way.
